It’s finally here, the cars are ready for battle in very unpredictable forests stages throughout the 23rd and 24th of June 2018.
Leg 1 opens with Dag Hammarskjöld Special Stage with the first car due in at 09:22. This follows a 5 star rated special stage for spectator viewing at Ndola Motorsports Club with the first car due in at 09:46 hours
As much as finishing the rally is the main goal all most crews, there is still pride and prestige on the line for each class.
Kenyan ace Manvir Baryan is running a supercharged Skoda Fabia R5, this is not the one that wiped Zambia’s floor clean last year, it’s a new and improved one, hower the nation and Ndola fans will be giving great support to Leroy Gomes and Kleevan Gomes as the lead the charge for the hosting city, who can also somewhat keep up in the very technical stages in their Mitsubishi Evo X and 9 respectively.
Lusaka Class A drivers have brought their usual positive attitude and will hope to surprise the internationals this year. Dirtstars Racing ace Jassy feels he has this one and there’s a special battle with Muna Singh Junior and Ahmed Huwel.
A major, major upset would come for Mr. N 16 killer Farook Ticklay, however, we should not forget the force that Goliath Racing is coming within former African Rally Champions, Mohamed Essa, protege Zubair Essa and “Sonny Boy” Miles Monge
For those that don’t get a chance to see the action during the day, there will be a Mega Super Special Night Stage at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium under the lights at 19:00 hours.
As much as drivers will want to entertain for this one, they will also be chasing time, thus this is not a one to miss as cars will be running at one-minute intervals.
We’ll keep you updated with times, incidents and other information throughout the day on the Zambia Rally website, social media feeds and the African Rally Championship website.
There is so much action to come today and throughout the weekend.
Let’s go racing!
