The 21nd and 22rd of October are going to be days that will go down in Zambian motor rallying history. With the Gomes Pembe Zambia International Rally 2017.
Many are await the arrival of the much talked about Skoda Fabia piloted by Kenyan Manvir Baryan and navigated by Drew Sturock. The pair have Dominated the African Rally Championship this year winning all the rounds they have participated in. The only place they need to prove their dominance is Zambia.

The Zambian crews on the other hand have been preparing not to be white washed by the Multiple Racing Team Crew from Kenya. Leroy Gomes and wife Urshlar Gomes will look to use home ground advantage and to at least get a win in the ARC championship. This will be the second outing for the Acid Boys driver to use his evoX on Zambian soil.
Zambian favorites for this rally arguably are, National Championship leader Muna Signh Junior and heavy foot elder brother Jassy Singh who have had running battles in the championship. The young brother to 2013 African Rally champion Mohamed Essa is also in the mix to try and disappoint the hopefuls wishing to concur the event.
This rally has attracted crews from the southern region and other parts of Africa. Being the last event on the ARC calendar. The battle is gong to be stiff with the likes of Giancalo, fitidis, Two wheel ARC Champion Shermohammed, and for the firsttime, the event shall see the entry of Namibian drivers in the even powering S2000 machines. The cars known very well by the Zambian rally fraternity after Zimbabwean Conrad came and caused damage to the international rally.
Thus a running debate on social media forums has been that there is no car that can challenge the Skoda because they are all inferior. Drivers need to upgrade. Well, this is when we shall see if winning a rally is driver and machine or just depending on the machine.
The entry list now stands at 35 which is a record entry for the event.
